RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
As a psychology major, I had the opportunity to participate in and contribute to research in both developmental and educational psychology fields. As part of the Early Development Lab team, I observed the relationship between storybook reading and problem solving in 4 and 5 year-olds.
Once accepted into the Masters of Teaching program, I became involved in the Preschool Relationships Enhancement Project (PREP) under the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning. Here, I was able to evaluate the impact of a teacher-child early intervention program aimed to reduce preschoolers' disruptive behavior. After meticulously studying teacher language with students through video observation, I am more aware of the impact my language has on my own students during both work and play.

SWEETHAUS CUPCAKE CAFÉ
I have always enjoyed cooking, baking, and hosting. On a whim, I volunteered as an intern at a local bakery that had just opened. This part-time internship in 2012 quickly turned into a full-time summer position, and eventually a managerial position. Sweethaus Cupcake Café has been open for over 3 years now, and I had the privilege of helping to open a second location in Brooklyn, NY in November 2014. It's been an exciting, challenging, and rewarding experience to watch this business grow.
I've applied what I've learned as a manager of a booming business to the classroom. Every student has an important role that is critical to our success, whether the product is cake or learning. In my future classroom, I plan on producing both as I incorporate my knowledge and love of baking into practical math, science and literacy lessons.

DANCE
I've been dancing, both competitively and non-competitively, since I was 3. Dance has become an outlet of expression for me. I've had the opportunity to share it with others through performances and teaching. While at UVa, I've been a member of the University Dance Club, as well as its fundraising chairperson and vice president.
VOLUNTEER
Even before my official education in Education began, I was involved in the classroom. I have experience with tutoring and mentoring most elementary grade-levels, as well as 8th and 11th grades. I credit a week-long trip to Treasure Beach, Jamaica as one of the most motivating factors for choosing teaching. It is my goal to recreate the joy and perseverance that I witnessed there in my own classroom.
